In 1949, serial killer John Haigh admitted to murdering his victims by dissolving their bodies in acid. He also thought he could outwit the forces of law and order. From his study of the law, he believed that to be convicted of murder there had to be a body. If the body no longer existed then the police couldn’t touch him. His arrogance knew no bounds and his grasp of the law was flawed. On the 10th of August 1949, at Wandsworth prison, John Haigh was hanged for his crimes.
