A landlord has paid ÂŁ13,000 to fix his property, after cavity wall insulation caused it to be âriddledâ with damp.
Peter Leonard, from Blackpool, spent ÂŁ2000 for the extraction of the insulation and ÂŁ11,000 on repairs, after part of the floor âcollapsedâ.
He does not know who the original installer was, but has found out that the material used was not meant to be used in an area close to the coast.
âItâs taking out moisture from the outside of the property and bringing it inside,â he said. âItâs like living inside a spongeâ.
âWe believe people have been paid heavily for doing [the cavity wall insulation], and itâs only ourselves and the tenants that are suffering.â
Mr Leonardâs tenant, Carley, said the damp had been âhorrendous, horrible to live inâ and had been affecting both her own and her daughterâs asthma.
The full programme, in which 5 live Investigates examines the problems caused by the mis-selling of cavity wall insulation, will be broadcast on Sunday 15 February 2015.
