Joey Barton is surprised Manchester United failed to strengthen their midfield during the transfer window.

The QPR midfielder was critical of United's approach during the game at Loftus Road, which Louis van Gaal's side won 2-0.

"Having played Man United recently, this is going to sound controversial, but it's arguably the worst Man United side I've played against in my 11, 12 years."

The 32-year-old also questions if Darren Fletcher will ever return to form at Old Trafford, following a long illness with bowel disease.

"No disrespect to Darren (Fletcher), but how much has that injury taken out of him? He was a top player. The real strength that lied in him was in his capability to get round the park which he did in a lot of massive games."
