Eddie McQueen lives in Edinburgh where he has been getting treated at a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre, after almost twenty years of addiction. Previous attempts at rehab failed but now he’s six months in; the longest time he’s stuck with a programme. His daughter Leigh is 17 years old and stays with family in Dumfries, where she’s just finishing up at high school. Leigh is a typical teenager – she loves social media, comic books and…. taxidermy. Despite their distance - both geographically and as a result his chaotic lifestyle - Eddie and Leigh have stayed close and share similar interests, particularly a love of reading fantasy novels which has kept their relationship going through the bad times. Now Eddie’s sober and looking to the future. Leigh too is thinking about further education and considering what to do with her life too. Here, they ponder a fresh start for both of them.
