Have you ever paid cash in hand to a tradesperson, suspecting it would mean they wouldn't pay the tax? Well now new research suggests half of homeowners have paid in cash, and had no regrets about it. The government estimates such transactions mean two billion pounds is lost each year to this black economy. The National Federation of Builders is calling for a cut on VAT on home refurbishment to remove the incentive for tax avoidance, we speak to their spokesperson this morning. Also Ian and our radiocar will be in Whitchurch because after seven months of work Whitchurch Civic Centre completely re-opens this morning.
