New Zealand is to hold a referendum over whether it should change the design of its flag, which currently features the Union Jack in one corner with the stars of the Southern Cross on a blue background. The country's Prime Minister, John Key, said the "design of the New Zealand flag symbolises a colonial and post-colonial era whose time has passed."
