Thirsty Explorer: Absinthe

Brad Cohen visits France to look at the revival of a drink banned a century ago for fears it was harmful.

Absinthe was a popular drink with Parisian artists and writers in the late 19th and early 20th Century

But by 1915 it had been banned in the United States and across much of Europe amid fears it had the powers of a dangerously addictive psychoactive drug.

Its revival began in the 1990s when EU law removed barriers to its production and it was deemed to be no more harmful than other alcoholic drinks when drank responsibly.
