I'm not going to pop off tomorrow: Kath and Kate

Kath tells daughter Kate that she'll be sticking around for a while yet.

Kath is 90-years old. She has a son, two daughters, three granddaughters and three great-granddaughters. She embraces life with both hands. In her 80s she studied car maintainence and computing, and today, if she's not out and about seeing people face-to-face, she's on email or Skype. Her daughter Kate (61) is bowled over by her energy. Kate recalls her daughter Ruth saying to her, "When I grow up, will I have to speak to everyone like Granny does?" Kath's enthusiasm shows no sign of waning. As she says, "life is an adventure."

In this conversation, Kath and Kate discuss death. Both are widowed. Kath and her husband Syd got married in 1951, and Syd passed away just shy of their 60th wedding anniversary in 2011. Kate and her husband Murray got married in 1983. Murray tragically passed away in 1990, leaving Kate to bring up their daughter Ruth, who was then a toddler. As Kath says in the conversation, "he was far too young a man," but Kate's experience's allowed her to be an enormous support to her mum 21-years later.
