A selection of the best in jazz music.

Cab Calloway with Cozy Cole playing drums and an example of Hard Times also known as Turvy. Dizzy Gillespie was also in the trumpet section on that date and then twelve years later he was pioneering new music with Charlie Parker. In 1960 he was leading his own quintet playing the music to the film The Cool World. Jacques Loussier became famous for his version of the music for a cigar ad, but it was music that he’d been playing for years – adaptations of compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach with a solid jazz beat. There’s an example of one of those on the programme tonight.
