The Boat Project

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Shelley Jory-Leigh live from The Boat Project

After a year of artistry and craftsmanship, a 30-ft sailing boat fashioned from hundreds of donated wooden objects is now ready.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Shelley Jory-Leigh present this evening's H2O Show from on board the boat ahead of it's launch and naming.

The vessel includes some 1,200 donations given by people who attended donation days all over the South East region.

Donations include a tiny piece of the Mary Rose, another of HMS Victory, a sliver of Jimi Hendrix’s guitar, a salad server in the shape of a spanner, a plank from the new London 2012 Velodrome, a piece of the Brighton Pier, several hockey sticks and a Victorian policeman’s truncheon.

Also this week, Tracey Clarke reports from the Jersey Boat Show.

Neil Sackley meets Olympic rower Ben Hunt Davis MBE and we remember the loss of Portsmouth based HMS Sheffield.

And in our series previewing the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant, Shelley finds out more about Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's beloved Suhali.
