Should your company be able to force you to retire?

Companies used to be able to force you to retire but the retirement age was scrapped last year, so you can in theory keep working well into your 80's.

There will be a ruling from the Supreme Court today, on whether it was right for a City law firm to force its partner Leslie Seldon, from Bidborough to retire when he turned 65.

The law firm, Clarkson, Wright & Jakes said it is retiring all partners at 65 was acceptable as it allowed associates to move up the ranks to partnership and gave the workforce reasonable expectations on when senior vacancies would arise.

So, the default retirement age is being phased out - most people can now work for as long as they want to.

What if you want to carry on working? What if you love your job and you are fit, eager and keen to carry on? Why should you be forced out?

Maybe you have every sympathy for the law firm who forced Leslie Seldon out. If the older generation cling onto jobs what hope do the younger generation have for career progression? Did your heart sink when the government scrapped the retirement age last year?

How do you balance the working rights of the older generation with the rights of a business to run things how they want?

Depression can sometimes make every-day things such as speaking to friends, eating a meal or even just getting out of bed feel almost impossible to manage. We speak to a Kent mum of two who lives with the condition.

We hear your views and stories.
