From cool to hot: jazz from then and now

Cool jazz from the West Coast in the 1950s to present day swingers from Barnes and Allen.

Two hours of jazz which starts in the West Coast of America with music from the Chico Hamilton Quintet and Lee Konitz with Gerry Mulligan right through the decades to melodic jazz that’s still being played and recorded.

Samples of that from Alan Barnes with Harry Allen, Scott Hamilton, Stan Tracey and Wycliffe Gordon. There’s also a sample of Carmen McRae and Marian McPartland, both of them playing piano while Claire Martin and Jacqui Dankworth sing classic songs.

LA singer Roger Cairns, who hails from Scotland, also sings classic material. He goes for a Peggy Lee, Jack Marshall composition which graced one of Peggy’s 1960s albums.

For the trad fans there’s one from the Antique Six Jazz Band, Acker Bilk and Bob Wallis with another singing Mellow Avstreih singing with Ken Godfrey’s Central Jazz Band.
