The Queen visits Margate

Gemma Sterba sits in alongside John with the latest news, travel, and weather for Kent.

Her Majesty The Queen is visiting Margate today, 18 years since she last came to the Isle of Thanet. She will be shown examples of regeneration in the town as well as the new addition to the seaside skyline The Turner Contemporary art gallery.

A Kent graduate is feeling rather flush after winning half a million pounds playing poker.

It could have been an even bigger pay day for Sam Holden who missed out on the 5.4 million pound jackpot at the World Series of Poker Championship in Las Vegas.

The 22 year-old from Canterbury has only been playing his hand for a year but he has proven to be something of an ace at the game.
