'The Three Graces' by Antonio Canova

Alastair Sooke examines Antonio Canova's 1814 sculpture, 'The Three Graces'. John Russell, the 6th Duke of Bedford, commissioned the marble sculpture for his country residence of Woburn Abbey, after visiting Canova at his studio in Rome.

Canova travelled to England to supervise the installation of the sculpture and designed a rotunda and rotating plinth. 'The Three Graces' were often lit by candle light and rotated for the spectators to fully enjoy.
