Hygge: The Spirit of the Danes

In Denmark the Midsummer celebration is called Sankt Hans Aften, which translates as St John's Eve. It's one of the happiest days of the year and all over Denmark people light bonfires to salute the longest day. The Danes have a word for a specific conception of happiness - a sense of cosy, untroubled, contentment - that is specific to their culture. They call it 'Hygge'. In this clip Neil Oliver investigates this Danish phenomenon.
