Blue rinse

There’s a hare just up ahead, in fact there are two. If you can get close enough to them when you switch off the engine they’re quite happy to stay there and this one looks quite calm, he’s feeding. The sun’s just come out and you can see why they’re also called blue hares. His coat looks very blue at the moment. The valley has an impressive rainbow in it. Gordon tries to and follow the hares on foot and get a bit closer. At this time of year the hare are enjoying the plentiful food on offer, building up reserves for the winter. They prefer to feed on grasses, although heather forms a large part of their diet, particularly during the colder months when other food can be hard to come by. It’s during the build-up up to winter that the hares grow their famous white coats to help camouflage them against the snow and ice. For now they look great with their blue rinses.
