After Mervyn Robinson's tragic death everyone wondered if Joey Dunlop would go to the Isle of Man TT. Joey decided to race and took his Yamaha 750 over to race against the works teams of Suzuki and Honda. To avoid making two pit stops Hector Neill and Joey decided to put a larger tank onto the bike. On the last lap there was only a fifth of a second between Joey Dunlop and Honda's Mick Grant.
