Nadine Shah: The musical ups and downs of my life

Musician and songwriter Nadine Shah shares the music that has soundtracked her eventful life and how her own experiences and emotions are woven into her songs.

Nadine Shah shares the pivotal moments that have made her the multi-talented artist she is today, the songs that have moved her and soundtracked the ups and downs of her eventful life. Talking to Nemone, who combines her roles of DJ and qualified psychotherapist, Nadine dives deep to share her story and reveals how personal experiences and emotions are woven through her own work. It’s a chance to understand her relationship with music more intimately, to learn more about how she has used sound to communicate and how she has reached the place we meet her in.

Nadine's life experiences have been bravely laid bare through her musical output since the very beginning, with her tackling grief and loss in her 2013 debut album after two friends took their own lives. She has shared her own sideways look at the absurdity of life as a woman in her 30s in 2020s Kitchen Sink, and her latest album, 'Filthy Underneath', landed at the beginning of 2024. In it, she covers the tumultuous territory of nursing her mother through terminal cancer, intimate relationships, trying to take her own life and entering rehab.
