The women’s 100m final was the day’s showpiece event, with Great Britain poster girl Dina Asher-Smith hoping to be in the mix against America’s Sha’Carri Richardson and Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Legendary British gymnast Max Whitlock was seeking a fourth successive pommel horse medal, while US superstar Simone Biles sought to reclaim her women’s vault title.

Tennis medals were decided in the women’s singles and men’s doubles at Roland Garros, and some of cycling’s most familiar faces were in action in the men’s road race.
