Team GB’s female triathletes were hunting another Olympic medal after Georgia Taylor-Brown took silver in Tokyo, and Charlotte Worthington set out to defend her BMX freestyle title. Divers Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson were tipped for a spot on the podium in the women’s 10m synchronised final, while Britain’s female rowers are the reigning world champions in the quadruple sculls.

Five of the day’s 17 titles were decided in the pool, with the legendary Katie Ledecky, French star Leon Marchand and Australia’s Kyle Chalmers just a few of the stellar names on show.
