Gone with the wind

Verity Sharp charts another musical journey around the waters of adventurous music, from late-night oud solos to wordless opera, and some windy tracks for National Wind Day.

Settle in with Verity Sharp for another musical journey around the waters of adventurous music. There’s some late-night oud playing from Montreal’s Sam Shelabi, recorded in the wee hours of night surrounded by three cats and a bubbling fish tank. There’ll be wordless opera composed by Belgian composer Baudouin de Jaer and performed on the Geomungo, the six-string Korean bass zither by virtuosos of the instrument, Lee Junga, Shin Jihee, Sun Chaerin, Kim Joonyoung, and Lee Sunhee. There's a previously unheard recording of a Friends of Old Time Music concert from April 1965, where Bessie Jones, John Davis, and the Georgia Sea Island Singers performed stirring work songs, emotionally charged spirituals, and revelatory renditions of Mississippi blues.

Plus a selection of windy tracks to mark National Wind Day, from aeolian harps to Tom Waits.
