Episode 4 of 6

Khadeejah and Aarifah investigate a house fire, Jake is getting haunted house vibes at a suspected break-in, and Lukasz’s powers of communication are put to the test.

The episode kicks off as 26-year-old Jack and his colleague Rachel investigate a house where it is believed there may be Class-A drugs with intent to supply. Jack has heard that there’s a large XL bully at the house - but when he arrives, there is a surprise in store. Jack shares how he loves being a police officer, despite it seriously curtailing his social life.

Partners Khadeejah and Aarifah have been on the force for three and two years respectively. They arrive at a seemingly unsuspicious house fire that suddenly turns into suspected arson. The pair are asked to get an account from the emergency services and the family. It is their first arson case, and it could potentially go to court in the future. They may be feeling out of their depth, but they must get it right. Statements over with, they reflect on how an officer’s job includes speaking to people at some of the most traumatic moments of their life.

Jake has a call-out for a property where there is a suspected break-in. The property is large and unoccupied, and Jake is getting haunted house vibes - and the upside-down wooden cross securing the door isn’t helping matters. The police dog has caught a scent, and Jake thinks he can hear heavy breathing in the loft. Jake potentially puts himself in harm’s way as he crawls inside… but nothing is as it seems.

Twenty-six-year-old Lukasz has been on the force for three years. Born in Poland, he moved to England while at school and at first struggled to speak English. It is an experience that’s taught Lukasz about the power of communication, and his police style is first and foremost about trying to connect with people. It is something he needs to put to the test when he is called out to meet a partygoer who has been attacked and injured - but the young man is reluctant to share his details or to be treated. Will Lukasz’s powers of communication win him over?

At the end of a long shift, Jake and his partner are called to an assault outside a night club. What Jake has to deal with makes him realise that, even at only 26, he’s starting to feel too old to deal with these young revellers.

Khadeejah and Aarifah come across a car that activates their ‘spidey senses,’ and they decide to check it out. Rather than stay quiet and keep their heads down, the vehicle’s occupants push their luck, attempting to flirt with the young officers - but Khadeejah and Aarifah quickly put them in their place.

Later in the episode, we discover Jake is keen to move into the firearms unit, but is struggling with a crucial test. He goes to see Andy Dyson, or the ‘oracle,’ as Jake calls him. In the last series, Andy was an informal mentor to Jake - now he has moved off response and up to sergeant, but is still someone Jake seeks out for advice.

We end the episode with Lukasz outside a club where a fellow Polish speaker has been attacked. But the fight is not over – the suspect is back and this time it looks like he has a weapon. As the situation threatens to turn violent, Lukasz dives into action…
