A Superstar DJ and a Starstruck Fan
Catherine Southon and Phil Serrell breeze around Essex, picking up curiosities in a Mercedes convertible. Catherine enjoys a revenge prank on Phil.
It’s our last road trip with Catherine Southon and Philip Serrell as their sojourn from Bristol to the far east concludes - the far east of England that is! This time, they’re travelling from Great Baddow to Manningtree on the Essex coast in a 1965 Mercedes 220 SE. There’s plenty of top-down fun on this trip!
Phil hopes a restored contraption will generate a profit, then travels back in time to the 1920s to learn about a fascinating new invention – radio. He’s amazed by the humble building where a maverick radio engineer became the world’s first DJ and pioneered the concept of light entertainment.
Catherine picks up items as diverse as some Indian advertising memorabilia and a beautiful silver and rose-gold ticker. Phil has enjoyed the odd joke or two at his best mate’s expense over the years. This time, Catherine gets her own back when she poses as a star-struck fan.
Then it’s the final round in their best-of-five auction battles. There can only be one winner...
