Proposed cuts 'war on education': union boss

School principal warns that proposed education cuts will cost jobs.

A local principal has warned that a bid by the Education Authority to find over £200m in savings will result in staff losses and reduced educational provision for pupils across Northern Ireland. Michael Allen, principal of Lisneal College in Derry, was speaking ahead of what's being described as "an extraordinary" meeting of the board of the Education Authority later today, to identify a raft of savings. However, ±«Óãtv News NI understands that board members are unlikely to give their backing to many of the proposals -- because some of them - like cuts to school transport or Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision - would need changes to the law or Department of Education policy.
