But often for Black, Asian and minority ethnic women, there are specific challenges. As the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on Friday marked the start of 16 Days of Activism on the issue, Connie is joined by Dr Elaine McLaughlin from Hemat Gryffe, Scotland’s first Black, Asian and minority ethnic Women’s Aid charity, and Shakti’s CEO Girijamba Polubothu to discuss the challenges facing women from marginalised communities as regards domestic abuse.
