Highlights from the Schwetzingen Festival 2022 (1/4)

The Belcea Quartet and Quatuor Ebene perform Mendelssohn's Octet, and Isabelle Faust, with Alexander Melnikov, fortepiano, plays Beethoven Violin Sonata No 5 in F, 'Spring'.

Sarah Walker presents the first in a week of programmes featuring highlights of the 2022 Schwetzingen Festival. One of Germany’s biggest musical events, the festival takes place amidst the rococo splendours of the palace at Schwetzingen, not far from Heidelberg. Today, two of the world's finest quartets combine in a performance of the Mendelssohn Octet, and Isabelle Faust gives a spellbinding account of Beethoven's "Spring" Sonata, with Alexander Melnikov on the fortepiano.
