Remembering Mira Calix

Verity Sharp pays tribute to electronic producer and multidisciplinary artist Mira Calix. Plus more highlights from Radio 3¡¯s After Dark Festival.

Verity Sharp dives into the ±«Óãtv archive to revisit past sessions and interviews with electronic producer and multidisciplinary artist Mira Calix, an established and esteemed sonic experimenter since the early 2000s, who recently passed away. Calix joined cellist Mabe Fratti and Shards choir for a Late Junction session just last December. Her latest album ¡®Absent Origin¡¯, released on Warp last year, is an experiment in musical collage making and explores themes of political unrest.

There¡¯s also newly reissued music from Gabonese harpist Pap¨¦ Nziengui, traditional recordings from the Peruvian Amazon and an uncovered archival interview from the island of Tiree in Scotland. Plus more highlights from Radio 3's After Dark Festival which took place over the weekend of the spring equinox in Newcastle, with a live recording from the Late Junction stage at the Star and Shadow Cinema from Nyati Mayi & The Astral Synth Transmitters.
