Chanters, Drones and Bows

Gary West brings you high end bagpipe music with sets from Scotland, Northern Ireland, USA, Canada and Galicia, seasoned with a little dash of fiddle and cello.

Gary West brings you music from the chanter and drones of the bagpipes laced with some bows of the fiddle and cello. There are tunes from top highland pipers Allan Russell, Richard Parkes and Stuart Samson, band sets from the 78th Fraser Highlanders and the Scots Guards, while legendary Canadian piper, Bill Livingstone, demonstrates his piano skills as he tackles one of the great piping melodies of the early 20th Century, the Little Cascade. Vermont based duo, Ben Miller and Anita MacDonald, take us for a day at the lake in upstate New York while the inimitable Carlos Nunez invites us to party on down Galician style. And with a piping contest looming in memory of one of the great players of his generation, the late Duncan Johnstone, we hear from the man himself as well as from his son, cellist Neil Johnstone, who rounds things off with a heartfelt and poignant musical tribute of his own.
