New book on Stanley Baxter, Glasgow singer-songwriter Jim McAteer and Film Reviews

Brian Beacom, author of The Real Stanley Baxter, the first and only authorised biography of the great Scottish comedian.

You can hear Grant Stott in conversation with journalist Brian Beacom, author of The Real Stanley Baxter, the first and only authorised biography of the great Scottish comedian. Written from over a decade of conversations where Stanley and Brian became great friends, the book tells Stanley’s story from the man himself.

He will also be talking to Glasgow singer-songwriter Jim McAteer whose songs have long been cherished on the open-mic scene in Glasgow and beyond. He has just released a new single In Love With Every Atom, which captures his unique, warm-hearted vision – we’ll hear all about it.

In a special feature from our reporter Bob Dickson, we’ll also hear about the Gaelic opera singer Jessie Maclachlan; a fascinating story featuring her great grand-niece and the first ever commercial recording of a Gaelic song sung by Jessie.

A major new exhibition about stop-motion supremo Ray Harryhausen has finally opened at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh, we’ll have another chance to hear double BAFTA nominated film-maker, John Walsh, discuss the work of the legendary movie magician - one of cinema's most admired and influential special-effects gurus.

Grant will also be hosting our Film Hour when film critics Amber Wilkinson and Ross MacLean will review the highly anticipated Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula', the fast-paced follow-up to Yeon Sang-ho's 2016 zombie-horror thriller smash.

They will also discuss – British Crime drama Looted which is garnering great reviews and stars Charley Palmer Rothwell (Legend), Thomas Turgoose (This Is England), Tom Fisher (Van Helsing) and Morgane Polanski (Vikings).

All that and a contemporary classic; Attack The Block - a British science fiction comedy horror film written and directed by Joe Cornish and starring John Boyega, Jodie Whittaker, and Nick Frost. The film centres on a teenage street gang who have to defend themselves from predatory alien invaders on a council estate in South London on Guy Fawkes Night!
