27/02/20 - Environment Bill, NFU Conference, Carbon footprint on farms

The government's new Environment Bill has its second reading in the House of Commons. Caz Graham hears some of what was said, and finds out what environmental groups make of it.

The government's Environment Bill is making its way through the House of Commons, with its second reading taking place this week. The bill includes plans for the introduction of a new Office for Environmental Protection, which will take over the environmental watchdog role formerly performed by bodies at the European Union. Caz Graham talks to the parliamentary adviser for the environment organisation Greener UK, to find out what she makes of the bill.

It's been a busy time for the new Defra Secretary of State, George Eustice. Last week he was out in the floods; this week he raced between Parliament and the National Farmers' Union conference in Birmingham. We hear what he had to tell conference delegates about how British agriculture will work in a post-Brexit world.

Continuing a week-long look at how farmers can try to achieve their targets for net zero agriculture, we hear about a project in Wales where farmers are using an online tool to help their businesses go green.

Presented by Caz Graham and produced by Emma Campbell.
