For the second year running, judges Gregg Wallace, Monica Galetti and Marcus Wareing hit the road to catch up with five of the competition’s most successful past contestants, whose careers have been transformed since competing, before inviting them back to the MasterChef kitchen for one last battle to impress.

Travelling to some inspiring and diverse gastronomic destinations, the judges find their past alumni making waves in the culinary world. Last year’s finalist Dean Banks gets a visit from Marcus in coastal St Andrews in Scotland, where they dine in his new restaurant, championing the local seafood he loves. 2010 semi-finalist Matt Worswick, who was the first MasterChef: The Professionals contestant to win a Michelin star, shows Gregg how far he has come after his time on the series with a delicious menu at the Michelin-starred hotel restaurant in Surrey, where he is head chef.

Monica discovers 2007 finalist Sven-Hanson Britt’s fledgling restaurant project in the grounds of a stately home in rural Derbyshire – with an emphasis on locality and foraging. MasterChef: The Professionals semi-finalist Michelle Trusselle was inspired by her time in the competition last year to set up her own supperclub in London, to which she invites Marcus for a Caribbean evening. Monica meets up with Adam Handling, who, since leaving the competition as a finalist six years ago, has built up an impressive group of restaurants, bars and coffee shops across London and finds out how his MasterChef experience inspired him to put his own personality into his food.

But it wouldn't be MasterChef: The Professionals without an element of competition. So all five finalists return to the MasterChef kitchen to show the judges how much their food has evolved. In this spectacular rematch, there is extraordinary food and creativity on show, as the chefs battle to prove to the judges, once again, that they are best in the kitchen.
