Episode 5 of 10

It's a hot summer's day and the special operations teams are called to support the fire service at a major wildfire.

Documentary series following the Scottish Ambulance Service. Serving a population of over five million, from remote islands to busy cities, the paramedics are first on scene at medical emergencies right across the country.

This episode follows ambulance crews in Aberdeen and Edinburgh and the special operations response teams from the east and west of Scotland as they deal with the most serious calls.

It’s festival time in Edinburgh and ambulance crew Stephen and Gwion are called to treat a woman who has fallen on the Royal Mile, possibly breaking her ankle. Elsewhere in Edinburgh, another crew - Blair and Moira - respond to a 999 call about an elderly lady who has become unresponsive and may have had a stroke. As strokes are time-critical, they assess her as quickly as possible and rush her to hospital.

In the Central Belt, it’s a hot summer's day and the special operations teams are called to support the fire service at a major wildfire. They are also called to a fire in a tenement block in Glasgow and another fire in Falkirk.

On the M8, a major crash poses another challenge for the special operations team, while back in Edinburgh, specialist paramedic Mat is called to a head injury before suddenly being diverted to a more serious life-or-death call. And in Aberdeen, an elderly lady needs treatment for a face injury sustained in a fall.
