11/09/19: Carbon net zero farming by 2040, Pearl mussels on the River Spey, Do fish feel pain?

Anna Hill asks Professor Elizabeth Robinson from the University of Reading if the National Farmers' Union plan to make farming carbon neutral by 2040 is achievable.

Minette Batters speaks to Anna Hill about the National Farmers' Union plan to make farming go carbon-neutral by 2040, and how, despite calls to reduce meat intake, UK livestock farming has a role to play. Professor Elizabeth Robinson from the University of Reading says agriculture and climate change must be considered in the round with the entire food system and that consumers must play their part to cut-down on food waste.

In Monday's programme Martin Salter from The Angling Trust said that fish don't experience pain when they're caught by anglers. Lynne Sneddon from The University of London says that fish can experience pain and that tiring them out prior to a catch can lead to mortality.

Kevin Keane reports on the discovery of a new population of critically endangered freshwater pearl mussels which have been found on a tributary to the River Spey.
