Mansfield & Redditch

The team come to the rescue of two single mums, Holly in Redditch and Annette in Mansfield. Between them they have five boisterous boys and two terrible gardens!

In this episode, the team come to the rescue of two single mums who need help with their gardens. First, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers head to Redditch in Worcestershire, to see what strategies they can come up with to transform a steep and overgrown brambly plot for Holly, a single mum of two boisterous young boys. Owner Holly has mobility issues and struggles even to get to the end of her hazard-strewn monster of a garden. She needs it turned into a safe and inspiring haven full of interesting shapes and colours, where she can sit outside and her children can exercise both themselves and their fascination for bugs and insects. While they have their work cut out, they have the advantage of a £6,000 budget to put to good use, which should go a long way to helping make all of Holly’s horticultural dreams come true.

80 miles north in Mansfield though, the team have a much smaller budget to work with – just £2,500. Will that be enough to turn around the large garden of Annette? A single mum of three children, ranging from 18 to six, Annette wants a space that can work for everyone. The trouble is that currently her garden is a bit of a dumping ground, especially at top end where there is just loads of old rubbish. On top of that, her large sloping lawn and not very generous patio hardly makes it the perfect starting point. The one thing that she loves and wants to keep is an old shed which holds plenty of sentimental value – even if it has seen far better days! Can the team turn these negatives into a wildlife rich back garden with a Hansel and Gretel style natural woodland feel? If anyone can, then it is the Garden Rescue team.
