This episode follows staff on a Friday night shift. Saj, the performance manager, is concerned there aren’t enough ambulances for all the patients needing them, and the situation worsens when a call is received from the fire service that a house fire is in progress. Saj and the team must find all available ambulances and divert some from lower priority jobs to get the casualties. The fire is brought under control and all the residents accounted for, but hospital services across Greater Manchester are stretched and it isn’t easy to find suitable hospital beds. Gari is forced to take matters into his own hands.

As morning breaks, Paul and Adam are dispatched to a man who is receiving cancer treatment and is feared to have the life-threatening sepsis infection. On arrival, the patient is in defiant mood and explains to the crew that he’s made the decision to no longer have treatment for his cancer. And a call is in progress for a patient in alcohol withdrawal who is struggling with fits and seizures.
