Anti-Slavery International

Anti-Slavery International believes everyone should have the right to live in freedom and we are dedicated to ending slavery in all its forms around the globe. We have projects in the UK and Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and our campaigning work covers the whole world.

At a grassroots level we work in partnership with local organisations to secure the freedom of people affected by slavery. We also advocate at the highest level for effective implementation of laws against slavery. This appeal focuses on our project helping child workers in Tanzania, many of whom are forced to do gruelling work from a young age with no chance to attend school and pursue their own ambitions.

Sophia

Sophia

Sophia is from Nzega in Northern Tanzania. She took a job to support her family and was forced to work seventeen hours a day by her employer, with no salary. In the appeal, you can hear about her story and how she escaped this situation with help from Anti-Slavery International.

Irene (not her real name)

Irene (not her real name)

Irene took a job doing domestic chores in the house of another family and was physically abused by her employer. She got help from Anti-Slavery’s project and is now free from her former employer. She is taking vocational training and is pursuing her own ambitions in life.

George

George

“After their training with us, employers begin to treat the children like one of the family – they eat meals together and pay them properly.â€

George works for the Tanzania Domestic Workers Coalition, Anti-Slavery’s local partners, helping child workers and working with employers to change their attitudes to children in domestic work.
