Susan Morrison with special guest presenter Cathy Macdonald explores two major anniversaries. Cathy meets Nan Glen and Finlay MacLachlan, whose fathers were part of a gallant band of brothers: the pipe band from the little village of Allandale whose men went on to fight in WW2. Along with local historian John Reid, we follow the story of Nan's father, Pipe Major Malcolm MacLachlan, and his brothers Kenneth and Ian who fought at El Alamein, 75 years ago. Finlay's father fought in the Far East.

100 years ago, in October 1917, the Bolsheviks seized power in Russia. Historian Dan Gray chats to Susan about how it affected generations of Scots and we hear some eyewitness accounts.
