North West Main

Creative culinary competition. It is the main course of the north west regional heat and the scores mean this is a crucial round.

24 of Britain's top chefs are competing in this year's Great British Menu for the chance to cook at a most prestigious banquet at the Palace of Westminster. In the year of the Queen's 90th birthday, the chefs are celebrating the everyday great Britons who have been honoured for their selfless work to charities, to their communities and to the country. The chefs have to showcase the transformation in British cuisine during the Queen's historic reign, creating dishes that could be a legacy to the new Elizabethan age.

It is the main course of the north west regional heat and the scores mean this is a crucial round. Matt Worswick may be the reigning champion but he is not yet assured of a place cooking for the judges and he is feeling the strain. Today, he has a highly original element to add to his take on coronation chicken which he is making from scratch and it has certainly got the veteran chef interested. Kim Woodward has chosen to pay tribute to all those police officers who have been honoured by the Queen and she is baking again - this time making American biscuit-style dumplings with blue cheese. And Adam Reid is cooking up a refined beef dish with a beef tea and serving it in a highly unusual way.
