Call You and Yours: Are UK holidays for you?

Consumer phone-in. An in-depth look at what UK tourism has to offer, along with the challenges it faces.

There's been lots in the news about the rise of the British 'staycation'. Visit England says that in the first four months of the year, domestic holiday trips in Great Britain were up 4% to around 14 million compared with the year before. However, at the same time, holidays abroad have also risen. So we'd like to hear from you about why you'd choose to holiday in the UK - instead of abroad.

The Managing Director of Butlins, Dermot King, is going to be on-hand to give his views on how British seaside resorts are doing. In the past he's called some places - like Morecambe, Blackpool, Rhyl and Great Yarmouth - 'tired'. He thinks a big rejuvenation drive is needed to try to make these resorts a desirable destination. Mr King also backs a call for a 'Seaside Tsar' to be appointed. The idea is that they'd help to promote and coordinate all departments involved in boosting seaside towns.
What memories do you have of trips to the seaside? If you've stopped going, tell us why. If you enjoy a trip to the coast, where do you go? If you live in a seaside town what's it like - would you like to see more investment?

The Great British Tourism survey also indicates that alternatives to the seaside break are on the up. Camping and caravanning was up 8% last year, and we're often hearing about a rise in glamping and eco-tourism. Perhaps you've got a holiday in the UK this year but doing something slightly different, we'd like to hear about that too. if you run a tourism business in the UK, tell us what challenges you're facing.
