Each week, songs are played connected to members of 'The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame'. In today's programme we celebrate the recent induction of Deep Purple by playing their American top five single 'Hush'. We then return to our alphabetical survey of inductees and feature Jefferson Airplane's classic 'White Rabbit'. In 'A Matter Of Life And Death', we celebrate the birthday on this date in 1942 of Peter Tork of The Monkees by playing '(Theme From) The Monkees'. Paul pays tribute to soul singer Otis Clay, who has recently died, by featuring his hit 'Trying To Live My Life Without You'. 'It's Not The Same Old Song' highlights 'When I'm Gone' by Motown singer Brenda Holloway and a different song with the same title by rock band 3 Doors Down.
In the feature called 'Beyond The Sea', Paul plays a song from a UK artist's biggest-selling album in America. Tonight, we hear tracks from LPs by Led Zeppelin and Simple Minds. 'The Other Number Ones' are records that reached the top of the American chart in 'Cash Box' magazine, but not in the Hot 100 of the other US chart publication 'Billboard'. This week's examples are by Aretha Franklin and Elton John.
Our R&B number ones are from 1966 and now by Stevie Wonder and Tyrese. We hear Country number ones from 1960 and this week by Jim Reeves and Thomas Rhett. Our featured past and present Rock number ones are by Van Halen and Twenty One Pilots. Returning for an eighth week, the number one album is '25' by Adele. 'Work' by Rihanna featuring Drake is the best-selling song of the week.
