Further Information:

After last night’s intense and gruelling defeat to Australia, Wales emerge from the Rugby World Cup’s toughest pool to face a rampant South Africa.  They have reached the quarter finals on a wave of national fervour, fuelled, as ever, by assorted hymns and arias.

On All Things Considered this week, Roy Jenkins explores the relationship between rugby and religion in Wales, and how it’s developed over the years; and he also meets some people who are as enthusiastic about their faith as about their sport.
