The residents of Albert Square wake to front-page news revealing that there is a new suspect in the Lucy Beale case. Tensions rise between the Brannings and the Mitchells.

As Bobby sleeps peacefully, Ian wakes to discover Jane missing from bed. Ian finds Jane downstairs – she’s been talking to Peter, concerned that Beth Kennedy may have called him too; but he hasn’t heard a thing. As the pair talk, Bobby appears and questions the noise. Jane covers and claims she was telling Peter the good news; Cindy’s back home. As Ian anxiously debates whether there could be some truth in the claim, Jane stands firm; they haven’t come all this way to let it fall apart now.

In the café, Martin presents Ian with a newspaper – a ‘new suspect’ story splashed across the front page. Cindy confronts Jane and demands to know what’s happening – Jane shows her the newspaper. Cindy panics and questions who the witness and mentioned new suspect could be. Jane purports that she’s going to call DI Keeble to find out but Ian snatches the phone from her, suggesting the whole thing could have been staged to wind them up.

Ian heads into an empty Beales’ restaurant and sits alone, until Sharon finds him. Sharon comforts a broken Ian and insists that he has a right to know who the suspect is. Ian returns home keen to call Keeble – she’ll be wondering why they aren’t tearing down the walls. Keeble comes over and informs the trio that they have a new DCI on the case, who’s making an arrest as they speak.

Sharon’s concerned when Phil hastily finishes a phone call to Ritchie. Phil fills Sharon in – Ritchie’s heard that the police are going to be on the Square today. Phil briefs Ben to get the dodgy car they had delivered the previous night fixed up and off the Square without anyone seeing it. Ben receives a flirty text from Paul, who’s spotted him from across Bridge Street.

Later, as Paul comes out of Blades, he crosses Ben driving the car he’s been working on for Phil. As an oblivious Ben drives, he nearly runs over Carol. Max berates Ben for being so careless and Ben retorts, calling Max a tramp.

In the café, Ben finds Carol and Max and apologises, but Max is reluctant to accept it. Abi watches on, unimpressed with Max’s attitude. Ben gets a text from Paul telling him that he’s in the funeral parlour. Ben arrives at the parlour and the pair can’t resist each other. They kiss and slam the door behind them. Back at the Mitchell’s, Phil answers the door to DCI Marsden, stunned by the sight of her…

Paul asks Lola whether she’s heard anything about which of them is getting the job at Blades and suggest she goes and asks Dean. Before they can question Dean, he states that both Lola and Paul will do a cut and colour; he’ll decide who stays from that. Lola begs Ben to be her model but he declines; she manages to rope Jay into it instead.

Pam and Les are busy planning the Cokers’ centenary; Paul announces he needs to borrow Pam to try out his cut and colour. Les firmly tells Pam that they have to face facts – there’s no-one to carry on the business once he’s gone. Pam has an idea and follows Paul out, telling him she’ll see him back at the shop later for his hairdressing. Paul arrives back and is displeased when Pam suggests doing his cut and colour on a dead body.

Max finds Carol making a ‘for sale’ sign for Jim’s bike - Whitney moving out to the Vic means there’s one less wage coming in so they need the money. Max assures Carol that he will find a job, but scoffs when Carol suggests benefits for the time being. Max tells Carol she’s not selling the bike and suggests they go for a ride on it. Carol’s initially reluctant until Ben walks past and mocks the bike – giving Carol vigour.

Stacey finds Max in the café but has to dash back out when his fried egg sandwich makes her instantly nauseous. Stacey attempts to cover but Max cottons on; Stacey’s pregnant.

Shabnam and Kush sit in the café and run through their wedding invite list, but Kush only has eyes for Stacey who’s made a quick dash out – Shabnam assures Kush that Stacey’s never been better. Later, Kush is given further food for thought when he clocks Stacey looking at baby clothes on the market. Kush finds Stacey in the café and congratulates her – he admits he worked her pregnancy for himself. Shabnam’s shocked when she runs into Kush later and he suggests that they make their wedding guest list even bigger, claiming he wants to show everyone how much he loves her.
