It's Kush's 30th birthday, and he soon finds himself in more than one awkward situation. Buster steps up to help Shirley. Stacey grows irritated at Martin's behaviour.

It’s Kush’s 30th birthday. Shabnam promises not to judge if he wants to celebrate but Kush determines to resist. At No 3, Stacey takes her meds and hurriedly stows them away, telling Martin she has a headache. Martin’s intent on throwing Kush a party and urges Stacey to come after Lily’s birthday sleepover so he can show her off. On the market, Martin continues to pester Kush about celebrating; Kush admits he wants to but Ramadan is important to Shabnam. Martin swears “no parties” but gives Kush a knowing wink. Stacey snaps at Martin to leave Kush alone.

Later, Kush is packing up his stall when he’s suddenly accosted by Martin and his football team and dragged to the Vic with a sack over his head. Tamwar’s delivering the bad news to Shabnam when Kush breezes back in, to her relief. In the Vic, Martin resolves to get smashed despite Kush bowing out and is pleased when Stacey arrives. Shabnam’s touched by Kush’s commitment to Ramadan for her and gives him a free pass to have fun with his friends. In the Vic, Stacey’s increasingly irritated by Martin and overacts when he wants her to have a drink. Martin’s delighted when Kush returns but perplexed by Stacey’s mood. Stacey tries to explain she has bad days, and then breaks up with him. She vents to Kush things with Martin aren’t easy like they are with him, clocked by Nancy.

Later, after being handcuffed to the Square railings in his underwear, Kush pleads Stacey for help; she enjoys making him beg before eventually setting him free. Nancy witnesses their intimate moment and the pair hurriedly spring apart. Kush returns to the Masoods’ to find Shabnam asleep on the sofa, his birthday present waiting. In the Vic, Stacey claims what Nancy saw meant nothing but she’s not convinced. Nancy demands to know if Stacey broke up with Martin for Kush and gives Stacey an ultimatum - tell Shabnam about her and Kush, or she will.

After a frustrating phone call, Shirley’s got nowhere with Social Services and storms off when Buster suggests it might be a sign. Patrick ponders having a child could change them for the better. Later, Buster tells Masood of Shirley’s plan to get custody of Jade. Masood doesn’t want Shabnam involved when she’s doing so well. Buster reveals Jade has Cystic Fibrosis. Shocked, Masood thinks Jade should be with her family and hopes Shabnam might be interested if Jade was nearby.

Shirley’s surprised when Buster suggests getting custody of Jade together in their own place - they could supervise visits with Dean. Shirley apologises to Carol for hitting her and is further shocked when Buster reveals he’s already set up a meeting with Jade’s Foster carer. Jonathon insists Children’s Services mustn’t find out but won’t oppose their application for access and ask to check out their living situation before bringing Jade to meet them.

At the Masoods’, after a day spent frantically preparing for the Iftar drive, exhausted Shabnam’s desperate to prove she’s not a monster for abandoning her child and sobs she wants to put it all behind her; she apologises for banning Masood from the wedding and asks him to be her Wali. Meanwhile, Shirley muses that if Dean knew they were going to meet Jade, he might have a change of heart. Buster makes her promise not to involve him.

Cindy eyes a dress on Kush’s stall but can’t afford it. Worried Jane pleads Cindy lie low until she’s told Ian she’s still Walford. Liam’s downcast when Cindy moans she won’t be attending the Leavers Ball as she’s nothing to wear. Carol hands over cash to buy her dress, warning grateful Cindy to keep it secret. Jane brings Cindy a new mobile phone and explains Ian’s willing to have her over for dinner; Cindy declines and Jane despairs she and Ian are equally stubborn.

Kim suggests Vincent book somewhere posh for Patrick’s impending birthday but Patrick won’t spend it with Vincent. Outraged Donna later vouches for Vincent, insisting he’s the only one that’s never judged her and if Patrick won’t give him a chance it’s his loss. Patrick relents and invites Vincent to join the family for his birthday lunch. Vincent makes a mysterious phone call, confirming to make the drop as arranged.
