It is the third week of heats. Eight ambitious chefs from all over Britain begin their bid for the MasterChef title by facing Monica's Invention Test. They must make a dish using a selection of just seven ingredients: brown crabmeat, sea purslane, aubergine, baby fennel, mango, ricotta and coconut. Monica demonstrates what can be achieved in just one hour.

For now, all the contestants are safe, but the group of eight is split and the first four chefs will return to face three more tests - Monica's much feared Skills Test followed by Michel Roux Jr's demanding Classics challenges. After this both Monica and Michel decide who has earned a place in the quarter-finals and who will be leaving the competition for good.
