Women’s lives in the Syrian conflict

Syria is rarely out of the headlines. The EU’s decision not to extend an embargo on supplying arms to opposition rebel fighters marks a new stage in a conflict that lastĚýmonth witnessed one of its bloodiest days. Liesl Gerntholtz, Women’s Rights Director at the organisation , talks to Jane Garvey about the impact on the lives of women and calls for a broad response from the international community in supporting them, beyond focusing on sexual violence.

Lorraine Hunt Lieberson was an American mezzo-soprano who was known for her emotionally intense performances. Tonight (Monday) the are holding a tribute concert forĚýher at the Royal Festival Hall. Martin Kelly, Viola player for the Orchestra and Susannah Waters, former soprano and friend of Lieberson discuss her life and work.
