The mother of Stephen Lawrence recently claimed that the Metropolitan police had given up trying to catch the rest of her son鈥檚 killers. In January this year, nineteen years after his death, Gary Dobson and David Norris were found guilty of murdering Stephen Lawrence and were sent down for life. Jenni talks to Doreen Lawrence about her continuing campaign for justice for her son.

Malala Yousafzai was shot by the Taliban in October in North West Pakistan. She was flown to the UK for treatment afterwards and is still聽being treated by doctors in Birmingham. She鈥檇 been campaigning for four years for the rights of girls to attend school. She started with a blog on the 鲍鱼tv's Urdu website. She wrote about her everyday life and the struggle to continue her education in a Taleban controlled area. Earlier this year, she read from her blog in Urdu and gave an interview on the 鲍鱼tv World Service.

Throughout the troubles in Northern Ireland so called 鈥減unishment shootings鈥� were used as a way to maintain political and social control. They are still being used used within some communities, where people are given the choice to attend a shooting by appointment in return for a 'lesser injury'. We hear from some parents who went with their sons to those appointments, and we hear from a new group set聽 up by mothers in Londonderry to try to do something about it.

Many people make New Year resolutions;聽maybe to give up smoking, cut back on the booze or do more exercise, but in 2010 writer Judith O鈥橰eilly made a New Year鈥檚 Resolution聽to do a good deed every day for a whole year, and she wrote a book about the experience. She tells Jane聽why she did it and what聽she learnt from it.
