Shirley throws herself into Heather's murder investigation, while Alfie and Roxy find themselves in an awkward position when the Vic hosts a party to celebrate St George's Day.

Shirley’s slept on Dot’s sofa. Shirley decides to offer a reward for information on Heather’s murder. Dot contributes, but Phil turns her away and there’s no money at the Vic either. Janine gives Andrew and Shirley £500. Shirley has flyers printed. Having earlier implored Shirley to come home, Jay admonishes Ben when he walks away from her. Derek discovers Phil’s dumped Shirley, but she rejects his offer of a drink. Tipped off by Phil, DS Crisp tells Shirley her flyers are putting his investigation in jeopardy. When Shirley questions Phil about their split, he responds cruelly. Later, Derek asks a plastered Shirley if she fancies a nightcap. She tells him to lead the way. Carol doesn’t understand Bianca’s angst when Ricky can’t send her money. Bianca asks if she can have Heather’s job but the launderette’s going to be unmanned in the afternoons. Carol’s wistful after receiving a postcard from Greece. Bianca covers when Tiffany reads out a text about a non-payment penalty. Tiffany and Morgan’s pet spider escapes in the launderette. They’re fed up of being poor; Dot tells them about wartime life. Bianca wants to claim housing benefit, but Janine won’t give her a rental agreement unless she pays market rent. Bianca‘s got until Friday to pay the rent. Running Bianca a bath, Tiffany and Morgan leave the taps on and water starts dripping through the living room ceiling. Bianca’s anger quickly turns to amusement.
There are St George’s day celebrations in the Square and, after Derek guilt trips Jean, in the Vic. Roxy’s awkward around Alfie. They perform a Punch and Judy show and Dot leads the singing of ‘Jerusalem’.
Frustrated about their lack of sex life, Max books a nurse’s appointment for him and Tanya to discuss their options. Dismayed, Tanya admits she lied, she’s just not ready.
