A day in the life of Katy Winton, professional mountain bike enduro racer

Unlike other mountain bike formats, enduro combines both uphill riding and downhill racing into its events, some of which can last up to seven hours per day.

The professional Enduro rider takes us through a day of hard training & trail riding.

Katy explains that taking lots of rest is, perhaps counter-intuitively, a particularly important part of her training regime; quality work is more important to her than quantity.

She also uses plenty of stretching exercises to prepare her body for unusual riding positions and the inevitable crashes.

As if that wasn’t enough, Katy runs up hills to keep fit. It keeps her fresh and introduces a bit of variety from bike-riding into her routine.

The trails in the Innerleithen area, near her home in the Scottish borders, offer the range of terrains required to test each of the required riding disciplines.

Katy says she’s inspired by the growth she’s observed in the women’s mountain biking scene in Scotland. “People love biking and I love biking. It’s awesome to see everyone getting stoked on it.”
