World at One at 50 - celebrating Britain's best

The World at One is 50 this year. The first programme was broadcast on 4 October 1965 on the ±«Óãtv Service and was presented by William Hardcastle.

To mark our anniversary we want to celebrate Britain's world class achievements.

There's space exploration and fashion design, genetic science and Formula One, snooker and garden design and many other areas to choose from.

So we're asking the prime minister and other party leaders to pick their favourite and throughout the year we'll be asking other well-known people for their ideas.

We want to hear from you too. Where do you think Britain is leading the way?

Please email your nomination to wato50@bbc.co.uk or tweet using the hashtag .

Over the next few months we will feature some of the nominations on The World at One.
