Glastonbury 2024: 5 things to watch on Friday

The most exciting weekend of the UK’s festival season is finally here!

The world-famous Glastonbury Festival kicks off today, with more than 200,000 festivalgoers ready to get stuck in to an unrivalled programme of live music.

If you’re not heading down to Worthy Farm yourself, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a whole host of performances available on ±«Óãtv iPlayer and ±«Óãtv Sounds across the weekend. On ±«Óãtv iPlayer, we will be livestreaming all five of Glastonbury’s major stages, and unlike those on the ground, you don’t have to worry about clashes, because you’ll be able to watch full sets back on demand for 30 days afterwards.

To help you navigate the abundance of artists on the line up, you can watch the Glastonbury Channel on iPlayer, live every day from midday, which will bring you the festival’s biggest moments live, as well as highlights and performances you might have missed. Read more about how to follow along with the festival from home here.

Not sure what to watch? We’ve picked out 5 must-see acts for Friday…

1. Dua Lipa - Pyramid Stage, 10pm

Dua Lipa as Friday night's Pyramid Stage headliner is the perfect choice to get the party started. With her pristine pop sound and back catalogue of club bangers, she's certainly going to get everyone dancing. She told ±«Óãtv News last month that she wanted to turn Glastonbury into a nightclub, and we can't wait to see it.

Believe it or not, this will be Dua's first time back at the festival since her last set in 2017, on what was then the John Peel stage. But after the last few years, it's no surprise that she's coming back to the top spot.

Last year saw her go global when her song Dance The Night was released as the lead single for the Barbie film soundtrack (and later became both Grammy and Oscar nominated!), and she even had a cameo in the film. In 2024 so far she has had a starring role in spy comedy film Argylle, and released her third album, Radical Optimism.

She's been sharing snippets of some amazing choreography and she's hinted at some big guests - you definitely don't want to miss this set.

2. Jungle - West Holts, 10:15pm

Prepare for a glorious set of euphoric dance tracks. Jungle have made their name with their distinctively soulful, warm, and incredibly catchy blend of dance music, and they are renowned for their amazing live performances, recently headlining their own day at All Points East Festival in London last summer.

The dance music project was set up by best friends Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland, but the duo has recently become a trio with the addition of singer-songwriter and producer Lydia Kitto.

It's been a decade since they first played at Glastonbury in 2014, which was the year they released their debut album. Now they have three more albums under their belt - their latest, Volcano, was released last autumn, and its lead single Back On 74 was definitely one of the songs of the summer.

Watching them headline the West Holts Stage will be something special.

3. Sugababes - West Holts, 4:55pm

Who wouldn't be excited for this one? Girl band royalty will be taking to the West Holts Stage - an immaculate vibe for a Friday afternoon.

The original line up of the Sugababes will be bringing old and new hits to Worthy Farm, which is sure to be a very nostalgic moment - and an incredibly fun one too. Push The Button in the sunshine? Yes please.

We know it's going to be a slick performance because in the last few years they have played some amazing festival sets, supported Take That, and had their own headline tours across the UK and Australia.

Following the release of their latest single When The Rain Comes last autumn, a new studio album is expected at some point this year - fingers crossed for a debut of new material during their set...

4. Kenya Grace - Woodsies, 3:15pm

Kenya Grace has shot to fame in the last year after her song went viral on TikTok. The drum and bass producer achieved her first No 1 single last October, for Strangers, a song she performed, wrote and produced in her bedroom. In fact, she is the second British female artist to reach No. 1 on the UK singles chart with a track written, performed and produced entirely solo, after Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill.

Her soft voice and pop-leaning influences mixed with DnB production make Strangers an irresistible listen, but she's not a one-hit wonder, her other songs have racked up millions of streams too.

Kenya is definitely one to watch on the UK music scene, and absolutely one to watch at Glastonbury!

5. Olivia Dean - Pyramid Stage, 1:15pm

Olivia Dean opens this year's Pyramid Stage, and what a stunning opening set it will be.

The young singer-songwriter started out as a backing vocalist for Rudimental at the age of just 17, but started releasing solo music a few years later in 2018.

Her debut album Messy was released last year, and got nominated for the Mercury Prize alongside names like RAYE, Arctic Monkeys and J Hus. It's a beautiful, timeless album - her heavenly vocals, married together with personal storytelling and notes of soul, pop and jazz, make a wonderful combination.

Her music will be a gentle, uplifting start to the festival, and set us on course for a wonderful weekend.
